Barbara Shirley is a native Texan and devotes her life to her family, church fellowship and community service. She attended Prairie View University, St. Luke’s Licensed Vocational School, the Academy of Computer Technology and Bible Study Fellowship International. Currently, Barbara is a prison minister. Her past professional pursuits have included employment as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and technology positions, including telecommunications trainer and programming assistant. In addition to serving as a prison minister, her faith-based activities include service as a member of the clergy staff at Del Valle corrections, church administration, participation in a finance mentoring program, and she is a Leader for Celebrate Recovery. Barbara has received numerous professional recognition from her employers and a Certificate of Recognition for prison ministry. She has been a CommUnityCare Board member since January 2010, is a founding member of the Board’s Consumer Committee, and currently serves on the Executive, Strategic Planning and Quality and Performance Improvement Committees and is the current Secretary. She also co-chairs the Nominating and Governance Committees. Ms. Shirley lives in Austin and has one son and five grandchildren. Her hobbies include poetry, singing and community service.
