Celebrating Nurses Week: May 6 – May 12

At CommUnityCare, our nurses go above and beyond to support our mission to strengthen the health and well-being of the communities we serve. During Nurses Week, we want to honor our CommUnityCare nurses for their dedication to taking care of us during our most vulnerable moments.

As we celebrate Nurses Week, take a moment this week to thank a nurse to show them how much they are appreciated.

Our nurses inspire us daily with their patience, empathy, skill and wisdom. Read below to see how working at CommUnityCare inspires their service.  Pictured from left to right.

“We get the opportunity to help people at their most vulnerable moments by addressing the barriers preventing them from receiving the highest quality medical care they deserve. It’s an honor to help our community by closing these gaps. We genuinely help make a difference in our patient’s lives, which reminds me of why I became a nurse.” – Tiffany Bazarte, RN, Care Manager-North Central

“I’ve been with CUC for 10 years as the Employee Health RN. It is rewarding to support and assist team members so they can continue their passionate work caring for our patients. Our team members are as important as the patients we serve, and I am thankful to be part of this dedicated community.” – Christy Latiolais, RN, Enterprise Employee Health Nurse

“Our organization’s commitment to diversity and compassion towards each other and the community we serve reflects that of my own as a proud member of Nursing Services.” -Anna Barcenas, BSN, RN,  Associate Director of Nursing Operations-Adult Services

“I choose to work at CommUnityCare because I strongly believe health care is a human right, not a privilege. Every day I am excited about CUC’s efforts to advance health equity by providing holistic care to our communities.” -Anna Lane, RN, Manager of Care Management Services

“I enjoy working with others who want to care for patients and others who walk in our doors. The team here is great at what they do, and it motivates me.” -Julian Chavira, LVN, North Central Specialty

The new 15,000-square-foot clinic replaces a much smaller Pflugerville family medicine clinic which CommUnityCare has operated since 2009. This new clinic expands access to needed medical and dental services, especially for Travis County low-income and uninsured residents of Pflugerville.

In addition to offering family medicine, the expanded Pflugerville health center will offer dental care for children and adults, women’s health services, and mental health services. Additionally, pediatric care will also be provided by 56 residents – doctors in training – affiliated with Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin.

CommUnityCare, which operates 27 health centers in Central Texas, invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of its Pflugerville Health Center. The celebration includes clinic tours, music, food, and fun family activities. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include remarks from CommUnityCare and Central Health leaders, Pflugerville City Mayor Victor Gonzales, and Travis County Commissioner Jeff Travillion.

“Based on recent census data, Pflugerville’s 78660 zip code population has grown by a staggering 57.3% since 2012. Additionally, federal data over the last five years has shown that 78660 is consistently one of the top three zip codes in the Austin area with significant unmet healthcare needs for low-income individuals,” said Jaeson Fournier, CommUnityCare’s president and chief executive officer. “To better address this unmet and critical need, a new Pflugerville Health Center with expanded services was needed. Thanks to financial support from our partners at Central Health and the commitment of CommUnityCare’s Board of Directors and staff, this much-needed new clinic is now a reality.”

Dell Med-affiliated pediatric residents will further their clinical training at the Pflugerville Health Center, continuing CommUnityCare’s longstanding history of training physicians and its educational partnership with Dell Med. The pediatric residency program is one of eight rotating through CommUnityCare’s health centers, and part of nearly 50 training programs co-sponsored by Dell Med and Ascension Seton.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to add Pflugerville to the list of places where our physicians in training provide critically needed care in our communities,” said Dr. Jonathan MacClements, Dell Med’s associate dean of graduate medical education. “Each year, our residents provide more than 730,000 hours of care in the community, at more than 80 clinics and hospitals. And with the total number of residents practicing in Austin growing by 55% since 2015 — and expected to hit 80% growth by 2026 — the impact of that contribution will only increase.”
